It has been a very busy year for the WNYP since the railroad expanded once again in August of 2007. The railroad has leased more trackage from the Norfolk Southern as another attempt to bring more business online. So far a few customers have signed onto the plan in addition to what the WNYP has previously held as its customer base. The hope is that this new expansion will give the railroad access to the potentially lucrative sand business on the ex Pennsylvania Railroad Buffalo Line. With this expansion, the railroad has leased some additional motive power in the form of SD40-2s and SD40-3s (rebuild SD45s) in addition to the Alcos alright on line while the other newly acquired M636s are returned to service on the Bath & Hammondsport. The times are rough but the railroad keeps pulling forward. With this new expansion, the railroad gains one new point of interchange with the NS and Olean Yard becomes the center of operations with active railroad reaching North, South, East and West, the WNYP has its put itself in a unique situation.
As a result of this expansion, there are several new trains to watch out for. First there is the new mainline train 397/398 that runs between Olean and Meadville. It has developed into an out one day and back the other job such that it takes two days to complete the cycle. There is also the ZYT and DFT mainline freights. ZYT is the Hornell and Olean turn. The DFT runs south to Driftwood and returns to Olean. Three new/re-newed locals are the OL-1, FO-1 and ME-1. OL-1 being the Olean Local, FO-1 being the Falconer Local, and ME-1 being the Meadville Local. Lastly to sort out Olean we have the OL-2 which works Olean Yard.
After several months of in-fighting, the WNYP and all LA&L companies have emerged from the "revolution" with a new management and forward thinking. The future looks very bright for the company with the new management. The T&E employees have unionized and joined the BLET using an NYS&W-like contract.
